About

Courtney Lynn Ottrix

I was born and raised in Cleveland to two amazing parents Greg and Leslie Conwell. I very proudly grew up in Shaker Heights with my 4 siblings Chris, Camille, Carlton and Cameron. I attended Shaker Schools until freshman year of high school where I left to go to Beaumont for two years. I returned to Shaker my junior year and graduated with my childhood friends in 2004. Upon graduation, I left to attend college in Pittsburgh at Duquesne University. In 2008 I returned home to Cleveland and have lived here ever since.

I have loved Cleveland for as long as I can remember however it wasn’t until I became an adult that I learned to fully appreciate it. Not just the cost of living, but the revitalization that I’ve watched and been apart of the last few years. Cleveland has seen a transformation and it’s only getting better. Someone started calling me “Cleveland Courtney”, because I was constantly posting great news and new developments about Cleveland. It was this excitement, passion and love for Cleveland that drove me to start this blog. So I am officially a blogger, covering cool people, cool places and cool events in CLEVELAND!

In my day job, I serve as the Communications Director of Global Cleveland, overseeing all marketing and communications efforts for the non-profit organization whose mission is to attract, welcome and connect international newcomers to economic and social opportunities in Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. Since 2007, I’ve worked as a freelance Production Assistant for ESPN and ABC, primarily in Game Day operations. I’ve had the pleasure of working College Football, College Basketball, the WNBA, Monday Night Football, USA Soccer, Boxing and various sporting events over the past 10 years throughout the country.

In 2013, I Co-Founded Talk and Taste Cleveland with my high school friend Ashley Taylor. This event Networking event targeting young professionals throughout the city, was created to educate, motivate, and inspire young professionals seeking to build a sense of community and network in Cleveland.

In my most important roles, I am the proud, PROUD, proud wife of Bryon Ottrix Sr. and the mother of three boys Bryon Jr., Paul Hobson and Bryce Cameron and finally one daughter Codi Lynn. I am totally obsessed with my family so you will most certainly hear about them in my post and see them in my pictures. I spend a lot of my time supporting their extracurricular sporting activities as my husband coaches basketball at Glenville High School, has his own AAU Basketball Team (Ginn Elite) and my boys play basketball and football (minus Bryce who’s learning to swim). Without them, I wouldn’t find time to drink wine and work on my blog, so I’m greatly appreciative of their love and support in this venture!

  • Now I may not believe (in my heart lol) that we are ranked 48 out of 50 but what I do believe is that CLEVELAND has to do a better job (like Marsha who I love Mockabee, says in this article) in SUPPORTING LOCAL BUSINESSES! That’s where we fall short and other cities excel! .
.

This is why I created #courtneycoverscleveland ! The idea is to promote and support what’s here! We will never get ahead if we don’t learn to support each other.
  • Sunday evening I attended the Symphony of Pink and Green Cotillion! It brought back soooo many great memories from when I was an debutante in the first AKA cotillion in 2003. I remember the workshops and community service, the father daughter waltz’s and hilarious dance classes with my escort. It’s an experience every girl should have! I can’t wait for my Codi Lynn to take part. So glad to see my little cousin Jenesis as an APPLE! .

Parents invest in your daughters! Give them experiences that will create lifelong memories and help them grow and mature as young ladies! #courtneycoverscleveland
  • Spent Martin Luther King Jr. Day at the Children’s Museum making memories with #BryceCameron I had a million reasons why I needed to stay home but I literally saw the @shondarhimes book I just finished on my table and said YES! It was the best decision I could’ve made because I committed to spending more one on one time with each of my children. Bryce had the best time ever! This article will be up soon because we had sooo much fun and it’s an easy inexpensive trip for parents to enjoy with their kids! OHHH and yes I’m rocking my OBAMA hoody because I what better day than today to rock it! #courtneycoverscleveland
  • I was literally in New Orleans last weekend and had Papa John's Pizza! I saw this commercial and it has completely changed my way of thinking! As a local blogger in Cleveland, everything I do is to promote the city and hope to make an impact in the community. Those who follow me understand how passionate I am about supporting small businesses. Prior to this commercial I would have never included restaurant chains, however after watching this now I will!
.
Hats off to Herb and Kenyatta, African-American franchisees in New Orleans, for making a difference in their community, and to Papa John's for sharing their story. The commercial shows the power and impact that small businesses can have on our local communities.

I'm looking for Cleveland franchise owners! I want to meet you and I want to promote and support your business! #BetterTogether #courtneycoverscleveland #sponsored
  • I truly believe in supporting great #Cleveland businesses! I couldn’t let today’s special (although I should be on a diet) pass me by... this is hands down a #courtneycoverscleveland Favorite!

I’ve honestly been supporting @blackboxfix @latoya_lavise since 2014 when my then fiancé and I would eat Neveah. If you scroll to the right you will see our first meal back in the states after our honeymoon was at Neveah- we craved it after being in St. Lucia for a week! I actually ordered this same exact meal, my absolute favorite thing to order the buffalo fries! If you haven’t had them they are worth every penny and amazingly delicious (and did I mention reasonable? they cost $12) so if you’re ever in legacy village and want to support a local business choose #TheBlackboxFix they have great options ! #courtneycoversclevelandquickie .
