THE POWER OF A DIVERSE BOARD

September 11, 2019 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

What does it mean to philanthropic organizations to have a diverse board? How do you cultivate relationships and find experts in the areas you support? The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland has spent the last two decades serving Cleveland in the spirit of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, who minister to the community’s most vulnerable residents. To find success in areas of homelessness, health, education and
Catholic sister ministries, the foundation has developed a robust board of directors with varying perspectives and expertise. The foundation credits much of its success to this deeply engaged group of individuals, all committed to the sisters’ model of serving to the margins of society and creating a community where opportunities for growth and quality of life are shared by all.

This panel discussion will engage a small group of board members of the Sisters of Charity Foundation in conversation to learn more about their own experiences and reflections on black philanthropy, why they accepted the call to serve, and how together, we can all work toward achieving equity in leadership to reflect our vision within our communities.

  • Today, February 17th @rake_now celebrates the act of “paying it forward” by performing a random act of kindness every hour for 24 hours.
.
.
I very proudly participated by randomly performing acts or kindness throughout my day. I surprised a family at the movies with free tickets, purchased snacks at the concession stands and picked up someone’s groceries at Whole Foods. It might not seem like much but I feel good knowing I unexpectedly blessed them today! .
.
@rickonia my shirt came just in time to wear today! Kudos for all the work you’re doing to make a difference! Support the movement #RakeNow #RAKE
  • Yesterday #CourtneyCoversCleveland did two things for the first time in CLEVELAND:

1. I went to @dobamatheatre in Cleveland Heights - which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year! Crazy how things have been around for so long but we don’t know about them or we haven’t experienced them. This is one of those places you will be happy you now know about!
2. I enjoyed the arts alone and loved it! We always look to do things with people- go eat, go to a show- but it’s actually refreshing (and great self care) to do things alone sometimes. Soo... stop letting people prevent you from trying new places. Get up and go! .
.
Yesterday I saw the final production of Skeleton Crew and it was phenomenal! The play was about a struggling Detroit automotive plant, and a few remaining workers who try to figure out how to move forward if the plant goes under. The actors were extremely talented and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time! Might I add it was an all black casts which was amazing to see! Not sure how common that is but it wasn’t something I was expecting. .
.
My only wish I would’ve attended earlier so that you guys had a chance to see it but lol I had a few challenges trying to make it to myself. Thank You Alex Smilovich for the invitation. I will most certainly be back and encourage others to go as well.

  • It’s basketball season so you know what that means... sleepovers every weekend! .
.
.

Lucky for me, @mcdonalds recently added chicken to its breakfast menu with the Chicken McGriddles® and the McChicken Biscuit Sandwich (yum!). Available nationwide as early as 6am. Perfect before a game when we are on the go or when I’m too tired to cook breakfast! Chicken sandwiches for them and McCafé Premium Roast Coffee for me! .
.
I’m giving away a $20 @mcdonalds giftcard to a basketball mom who will be having sleepovers all AAU season! Comment below and tag some basketball moms! .
